Journeys

The result of a rare continued partnership with youth-oriented retailer Journeys, Virid has to-date executed three major redesigns of the Journeys web store to maintain their competitive edge.

Taking their credo—The Styles You Need, the Brands You Crave—quite literally, the design positions brand and product shopping directly on the homepage. Flexibility in the design allows for easy tie-in with multiple seasonal print campaigns, easily translatable to the mobile site. Product detail pages organize size and color selection (and a wealth of supporting information) into an easy-to-understand matrix.

Three major redesigns across the engagement reflect the sustained depth of Virid's partnership with Genesco, Inc. — Journeys' parent company and one of North America's leading footwear retail groups.

  • Journeys serves a youth-oriented audience for whom brand identity and product discovery are inseparable — customers shop by brand and cultural affiliation as much as by product category. The challenge across three redesign cycles was maintaining Journeys' competitive edge in a fast-moving youth retail market: ensuring the site could flex with seasonal campaigns, reflect the brand's deep connections to music and street culture, and surface product in a way that matched how its audience actually shopped. Each redesign iteration had to balance visual energy with navigability — for both desktop and mobile environments.

  • Led design across three major redesigns of the Journeys web store through Virid's enterprise retail partnership with Genesco. Each redesign cycle began with an audit of the current site's performance gaps and competitive landscape, followed by design exploration informed by Journeys' seasonal campaign creative. Developed a flexible design system that could accommodate multiple seasonal campaigns without requiring fundamental restructuring — allowing the brand's visual energy to shift with the calendar while maintaining a consistent navigation framework. Designed product detail pages that organized size, color, and supporting product information into a clear, scannable matrix suited to a mobile-first young audience.

  • Three major redesign cycles for a nationally recognized youth footwear retailer — representing one of the longest and most iterative client relationships in the Virid portfolio. The sustained engagement demonstrated the ability to evolve a design system over time in response to changing market conditions, seasonal campaign needs, and platform performance — rather than delivering a single static solution. The Journeys work, alongside Johnston & Murphy, forms part of a multi-brand e-commerce design body of work completed through Virid's enterprise partnership with Genesco, one of North America's largest footwear retail groups.
